Southport and the Pocket face each other across the Sacramento River, close enough to see each other’s rooflines at night, but there’s no bridge between them, so our trucks go the long way around through downtown. We make the trip anyway, because West Sacramento Christmas light hanging keeps us busy every December. Call (916) 823-8394 and ask for a price; it’s free.

Southport, where most of the calls come from

Southport makes up the whole south end of West Sacramento, and most of it went up during the building booms of the 1990s and 2000s. Bridgeway, Linden, River Ranch and Arlington Oaks lean heavily toward stucco two-stories, often with a concrete tile roof, and a lot of them sit under an HOA. We keep the plan inside your HOA’s rules and light both the upper and lower rooflines so the house looks outlined, not half-finished.

Trees in Southport are finally getting some size, too. A front-yard tree that went in as a sapling twenty-odd years ago can now take a full trunk and branch wrap.

Since so much of Southport has concrete tile, it’s worth a word on how we handle it. Tile is tough in one direction and brittle in another. Walk on it wrong or pry at it and a piece cracks. So we stay off the field of the roof as much as we can, and we use clips shaped to hook the bottom edge of the tile without lifting it. When the lights come off in January, the clips slide out and the roof looks exactly like it did before.

Composition roofs are easier. Those clips tuck under the shingle tab and hold fine as long as they’re spaced close.

    Broderick and Bryte

On the north side of town, Broderick and Bryte are the older neighborhoods. Smaller homes, older trees, and deeper porches on some streets. A porch with posts gets pillar wraps and a wreath. A picket fence can carry garland if there’s an outlet close by. Older wood gets a once-over before any clip goes on it.

Bryte started out as farm and dairy ground, and a few lots there still feel roomier than the rest of town. A longer front yard is a good spot for stakes along the walk, or a wrapped tree out by the sidewalk that people see as they drive by. On a lot of older homes, a lit porch and one wrapped tree is plenty.

West Sacramento Christmas lights and the river wind

The river wraps the east side of town, and levees line South River Road along Southport. When the Delta wind comes up the river in December, it hits those neighborhoods with nothing to slow it down. Our roofline clips go on close together, roughly a foot apart on the exposed runs, hooked to the gutter or the tile lip. Stakes go in firm and clear of the sprinklers. Fog mornings leave everything wet, so plugs and connections sit up off the ground.

Our lights, your timer, January pickup

We bring the lights, hang them and wire in a timer: roofline, tree wraps, pillar wraps, stakes, lit wreaths and garland. Our services page walks through each one. Should a section go dark before New Year’s, call (916) 823-8394 and one of us will swing by. In January the crew unhooks it all and loads it up, so nothing’s left on your roof come spring.

Beyond West Sac, we’re across the river in south Sacramento all season, and down in Florin and the south county too. Businesses near the port or along the riverfront, we do those as well. Call (916) 823-8394 or leave a note on the contact page, and tell us if you’re in Southport or up in Bryte.
